Birthday cakes and wedding cakes made to order in Milton Keynes

About me

Hello!

I’m Iwona, the owner of MK Cakes.

I’m based in Milton Keynes and have been making bespoke birthday and wedding cakes since 2012. Furthermore, I’m a home baker and completely self-taught cake decorator. After I made a birthday cake for my son, I saw how exciting and fascinating it is. After that I wanted to practice more and with every wedding or birthday cake that came after that I have fallen in love with it. I love the smell of a cake baking in the oven and to see how my cakes make people smile and every birthday very special and unique. Baking and decorating cakes is my passion now, and I enjoy every moment of it!

While preparing either a wedding cake or a birthday cake for you, I always think of a special feature of the party or event and also about individuality of the person the special cake will be made for. At MK Cakes, I create a mouth-watering wedding cake or birthday cake that is personal to you. As a result, you can be sure that my cake will be original and different to any cakes you have ever seen.

Among my wide and varied range you will find fun, imaginative, novelty birthday cakes and beautiful & elegant wedding cakes.

Please enjoy browsing through all sections of my website. There are galleries with wedding cakesbirthday cakes and many more. Hopefully they will inspire you and give you some ideas of what you might like for your celebration.

Wedding cakes

I offer professional and personal service from the consultation to the delivery and set up of your wedding cake at the venue. Therefore, I do limit the amount of wedding cakes I create, to give quality time to your order.

During my free consultation service, we will find a cake style that will best suit you and your wedding. In other words, we will look at cake flavours, colours, decorations & sizes to ensure your cake is personal to you. During my consultation, I always draw a sketch of your wedding cake, so that you can imagine how your cake will look. In addition, you both will get to taste my fabulous cakes, so you can choose flavours with confidence.

To complement your wedding cake, I also offer a delicious selection of wedding cupcakes and favour cookies. Have a look at some designs here.

Please browse through my wedding cakes gallery and enjoy the photos.

I hope you’ll find my designs inspiring.

They taste delicious, too!

I like people to be impressed not only by the look of their cake, but also enjoy every bite of it, too.

Many of my clients compliment the taste of my cakes. They often say, “the cake not only looked great, but tasted delicious, too!”

Therefore, my main goal is to make not only beautiful birthday and wedding cakes, but also delicious ones.

Price guide

Every cake I create is unique!

I price each order individually once I know what you are after.

Main factors that determine the price are:

  • size
  • cake flavour
  • filling type
  • decorations required

Time is also a major factor in the creation of either a wedding cake or a birthday cake. For instance, some cakes can be baked and decorated in one day. More intricate or difficult designs tend to be more time-consuming, and this will be reflected in the price.

How do I order a cake?

Cakes can be ordered by phone or email. Simply tell me the size (or number of servings), nature of the cake and when you require it and I will respond with pricing.

Please see the enquiry form here

What size are the cakes?

Cakes can be as big or as small as you desire; however the smallest one I offer is 6 inch round (this should cut into 10-12 flat party slices). Please have a look at portion guide here

How far in advance can I order?

Generally speaking, the more notice, the better! Availability is dependent on the number of orders being processed at that time. Some dates are more popular than others, so it’s always worth checking! Please do it as early as possible though to avoid disappointment.

How should I transport & store my cake?

As you will appreciate, once the cake leaves my premises, responsibility passes to you and I’m not liable for any damage in transit. Please be aware that a flat surface is required to retain the stability of the cake and should be secured where possible to remove the risk of movement in transit. It’s not advised to hold your cake on the lap.

All cakes should be stored at room temperature (+21C/22C) on a flat surface. They should never be refrigerated and should be left in their box with open lid until required.

All cakes keep up to a 5 days after collection/delivery as long as wrapped and stored properly. It is recommended that once the cake is cut any left overs be wrapped securely in foil to keep the cake fresh. Serviettes and tissue absorb moisture from a cake and can cause it to dry out so are not recommended.

Is everything on the cake edible?

Where possible – Yes.  You will be informed of any non-edible decoration that was used to construct the cake.

Do you cater for people with allergies?

I don’t offer gluten free or dairy free cakes at present. All my cakes are made in premises where nuts are also used. Although very effort is made to keep ingredients separate, cakes may contain traces of nuts or nut oil. Therefore I can not guarantee any cake I make to be completely nut free. It is customer’s responsibility to inform me of any allergies or intolerance.

Do you offer delivery?

I offer delivery and set up service for wedding cakes only.

How can I pay for my order?

I ask for 50% of the cost to be paid when you place the order, which is non-refundable. The rest can be paid when you collect the cake. Please note: Your order is not confirmed until I recieve your deposit payment.

Wedding cakes – to book your date I ask for 25% non refundable deposit, the rest is paid in batches. Last payment needs to be cleared 3 weeks before your cake is due.

I accept payment in cash or by bank transfer.

All cake quotations (wedding included) are valid for a period of 30 calendar days from the day of issue.

How can I cancel my order?

Wedding cakes and special order bookings are reserved solely for you and certain materials are ordered months in advance. For a full refund, you must give 6 months notice of cancellation. If you cancel with between 3-6 months notice, you will be charged 50% of the price. Less than 3 months notice will result in you being charged the full price of the cake.

If I need to cancel for any reason you’ll be given full refund.
